About

🌿 Amydrium medium ‘Silver Variegated’ is a spectacular tropical climbing aroid admired for its striking metallic silver-green foliage, creamy variegation and dramatic mature leaf development. Its elongated, beautifully textured leaves display an attractive silvery sheen, creating an almost shimmering appearance that makes this unusual plant particularly desirable amongst collectors.

✨ Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, Amydrium medium naturally grows as a climbing plant, using aerial roots to attach itself to trees and other surfaces. Young plants produce relatively simple, elongated leaves, but as the plant matures and climbs, its foliage undergoes a remarkable transformation, developing increasingly large leaves with dramatic splits and fenestrations.

🌱 Closely related to popular climbing aroids such as Monstera and Epipremnum, Amydrium medium combines impressive foliage with a vigorous climbing habit. Providing a suitable moss pole or climbing support encourages the development of larger, more mature leaves, making this an excellent choice for collectors looking to grow an unusual and increasingly impressive statement plant.

⭐ Why you'll love it

  • Beautiful metallic silver-green foliage with a dash of cream
  • Dramatic leaf transformation as the plant matures
  • Develops impressive splits and fenestrations
  • Vigorous natural climbing growth habit
  • An unusual and highly desirable collector's aroid

Care Guide

☀️ Light - Bright indirect light is ideal for maintaining healthy growth and encouraging the attractive metallic silver colouring of the foliage. Although Amydrium medium can tolerate moderate light, brighter filtered conditions are preferable, particularly when encouraging larger leaves and mature fenestrations. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage. Aim for approximately 4,000-12,000 Lux. Recommended grow light - Pianta 30 Grow Light LED Bulb.

💧 Watering -

Allow approximately the top 2–3cm of substrate to dry before watering thoroughly. Amydrium medium prefers lightly moist growing conditions but dislikes constantly saturated roots. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain freely. Avoid allowing the substrate to become excessively dry for prolonged periods, particularly during active growth. Reduce watering during cooler, darker months when growth naturally slows.

🪴 Substrate -

An airy, chunky and free-draining substrate that retains moderate moisture is ideal. As a climbing aroid, Amydrium medium develops an extensive root system that benefits from excellent airflow. Dense composts that remain wet for extended periods should be avoided. A mixture containing orchid bark, coco coir, perlite and other coarse ingredients provides a suitable balance of moisture retention, drainage and aeration. Recommended substrate - Soil Ninja Monstera & Philodendron Blend.

Additional Tips

  • Prefers temperatures of approximately 18-27°C.
  • Enjoys humidity around 60-80%, although established plants can adapt to moderately lower household humidity.
  • Avoid prolonged temperatures below 15°C.
  • Feed throughout active growth using NurtureSystem No.1 PowerGrow.
  • Provide a moss pole or sturdy climbing support to encourage larger, more mature foliage.
  • Mature leaves can develop dramatic splits and fenestrations when the plant is allowed to climb.
  • Bright indirect light helps maintain attractive creamy variegation and vigorous growth.
  • Long stems with widely spaced leaves may develop when the plant lacks suitable light or climbing conditions.
  • Monitor regularly for common houseplant pests, particularly thrips, spider mites and mealybugs.

💡 Please note: Care advice is intended as a general guide. Growing conditions vary between homes, seasons and environments, so adjustments may be needed to suit your specific conditions.

Guarantee

📦 We take great care in selecting, preparing, and packing every plant we send. Our goal is for all plants to arrive healthy and ready to settle into their new home, and we stand by the quality of what we ship. For this reason, we offer a 7-day live arrival guarantee on all plants.

🪴 Plants are living things, and occasional minor cosmetic marks or changes can happen during transit. This is completely normal and doesn't affect the long-term health of the plant. Some plants may also take a few days − or sometimes a little longer − to adjust after delivery before showing new growth.

📸 We photograph each plant carefully and will always note any visible blemishes within the promotions page or prior to dispatch. Despite careful packing, the shipping process itself can be stressful, and it's normal for plants to need time to acclimate to their new environment once they arrive. During this period, temporary leaf changes or slower growth are to be expected and are nothing to worry about.

📬 If you experience any issues with your order, please contact us at help@thearoidarium.co.uk within 7 days of delivery so we can help as quickly as possible. When getting in touch, we ask that you include your order number, full name, and a few clear photos of the plant so we can assess the situation accurately.

⏱️ To ensure fairness, compensation cannot be guaranteed if we are not notified within the 7-day period. We're also unable to offer a guarantee once the plant has been repotted, as we can't account for changes in care or environment beyond this point.
