About

🌿 Hoya 'Mathilde Splash' is a beautiful hybrid between Hoya carnosa and Hoya serpens, combining the vigorous growth of carnosa with the compact, rounded foliage of serpens. Its thick succulent leaves are generously dusted with shimmering silver "splash" markings, giving every vine a unique appearance and making it a favourite amongst Hoya collectors.

✨ Unlike many Hoyas grown primarily for their flowers, 'Mathilde Splash' is equally admired for its foliage. The silver speckling varies from leaf to leaf, with some vines producing heavily splashed leaves while others display a more subtle marbled effect. Given the right care, mature plants reward growers with clusters of fuzzy, star-shaped flowers that produce a sweet fragrance.

🌱 Naturally a climbing epiphyte, this Hoya thrives when allowed to trail from a hanging pot or climb around a hoop or support. Its compact leaves and manageable growth habit make it ideal for shelves, plant cabinets and windowsills where it can slowly develop into a dense, cascading specimen.

⭐ Why you'll love it

  • Beautiful silver "splash" foliage
  • Compact, rounded succulent leaves
  • Produces fragrant star-shaped flowers
  • Perfect for trailing or climbing displays
  • Easy-care once established

Care Guide

☀️ Light - Bright indirect light is ideal for maintaining healthy growth and encouraging flowering. Plenty of bright light also helps produce the strongest silver splash markings across the foliage. Avoid prolonged harsh midday sun, although gently morning or late afternoon sun is generally well tolerated. Aim for approximately 4,000-8,000 Lux. Recommended grow light - Pianta 30 Grow Light LED Bulb.

💧 Watering - Allow the substrate to dry almost completely before watering thoroughly. Like many Hoyas, 'Mathilde Splash' stores water within its thick leaves and is far more tolerant of underwatering than overwatering. During winter, reduce watering significantly as growth naturally slows.

🪴 Substrate - A very free-draining substrate is essential. Hoyas naturally grow attached to trees where their roots receive excellent airflow, so they dislike heavy composts that remain wet for long periods. An airy mix containing bark, perlite and other chunky ingredients encourages healthy roots while preventing waterlogging. Recommended substrate - Soil Ninja Anthurium & Orchid Blend.

Additional Tips

  • Prefers temperatures between 18-26°C.
  • Enjoys humidity levels of 50-70%, although it adapts well to average household conditions.
  • Avoid prolonged temperatures below 10°C.
  • Feed regularly throughout spring and summer with NurtureSystem No.1 PowerGrow.
  • Flower buds develop from peduncles. Never remove these after flowering, as the plant will bloom from the same peduncles again in future years.
  • Train vines around a Hoop or Support to create a fuller display and encourage flowering.
  • Allow vines to mature naturally - older plants flower much more readily than young cuttings.
  • Monitor occasionally for mealybugs and spider mites, particularly around leaf joints.

💡 Please note: Care advice is intended as a general guide. Growing conditions vary between homes, seasons and environments, so adjustments may be needed to suit your specific conditions.

Guarantee

📦 We take great care in selecting, preparing, and packing every plant we send. Our goal is for all plants to arrive healthy and ready to settle into their new home, and we stand by the quality of what we ship. For this reason, we offer a 7-day live arrival guarantee on all plants.

🪴 Plants are living things, and occasional minor cosmetic marks or changes can happen during transit. This is completely normal and doesn't affect the long-term health of the plant. Some plants may also take a few days − or sometimes a little longer − to adjust after delivery before showing new growth.

📸 We photograph each plant carefully and will always note any visible blemishes within the promotions page or prior to dispatch. Despite careful packing, the shipping process itself can be stressful, and it's normal for plants to need time to acclimate to their new environment once they arrive. During this period, temporary leaf changes or slower growth are to be expected and are nothing to worry about.

📬 If you experience any issues with your order, please contact us at help@thearoidarium.co.uk within 7 days of delivery so we can help as quickly as possible. When getting in touch, we ask that you include your order number, full name, and a few clear photos of the plant so we can assess the situation accurately.

⏱️ To ensure fairness, compensation cannot be guaranteed if we are not notified within the 7-day period. We're also unable to offer a guarantee once the plant has been repotted, as we can't account for changes in care or environment beyond this point.
