About

🌿 Hoya 'Wilbur Graves Silver' is a highly sought-after collector Hoya prized for its striking silver-patterned foliage. Its thick, oval to slightly elongated leaves develop varying amounts of shimmering silver splash over a deep green base, with some leaves showing a more mottled pattern.

✨ The exact amount and distribution of silver can vary from leaf to leaf, which gives each plant its own individual appearance. Heavily silvered forms are particularly desirable amongst collectors and can create an almost metallic appearance when grown in bright light.

🌱 Like most Hoyas, 'Wilbur Graves Silver' can be grown either as a climbing or gently trailing plant This makes it suitable for hanging pots or shelves.

⭐ Why you'll love it

  • Striking silver-patterned foliage
  • Every leaf develops its own unique markings
  • Highly sought-after collector Hoya
  • Can be grown climbing or trailing
  • Compact enough for shelves, cabinets and windowsills

Care Guide

☀️ Light - Bright indirect light is ideal for healthy growth and maintaining attractive silver foliage. Avoid prolonged harsh midday sunlight, which can scorch the leaves, particularly where large areas of the foliage is silvered. A little gentle morning or late-afternoon sun can usually be tolerated well once the plant has been acclimatised. Aim for approximately 4,000-8,000 Lux. Recommended grow light - Pianta 30 Grow Light LED Bulb perhaps with a Stelo Gooseneck Clip-on Bulb Holder.

💧 Watering - Allow the substrate to partially dry between waterings. Like many Hoyas, 'Wilbur Graves Silver' stores water within its thick leaves and is far more tolerant of underwatering than overwatering. During winter, reduce watering significantly as growth naturally slows.

🪴 Substrate - A very free-draining substrate is essential. Hoyas naturally grow attached to trees where their roots receive excellent airflow, so they dislike heavy composts that remain wet for long periods. An airy mix containing bark, perlite and other chunky ingredients encourages healthy roots while preventing waterlogging. Recommended substrate - Soil Ninja Anthurium & Orchid Blend.

Additional Tips

  • Prefers warm household temperatures of approximately 18-26°C.
  • Aim for moderate humidity of around 50-70% for particularly good growth.
  • Avoid prolonged cold conditions and cold draughts.
  • Feed during active growth throughout spring and summer with NurtureSystem No.1 PowerGrow.
  • Avoid removing Hoya flower peduncles after flowering, as established peduncles can be used again for future blooms.
  • Grow it around a Hoop or Support or allow the vines to trail naturally.
  • Silver coverage may vary naturally between leaves and vines.
  • Keep an eye out for common Hoya pests, especially mealybugs, spider mites and scale insect.
  • Do not keep the substrate continuously wet; wet roots are one of the biggest risks for this plant.

💡 Please note: Care advice is intended as a general guide. Growing conditions vary between homes, seasons and environments, so adjustments may be needed to suit your specific conditions.

Guarantee

📦 We take great care in selecting, preparing, and packing every plant we send. Our goal is for all plants to arrive healthy and ready to settle into their new home, and we stand by the quality of what we ship. For this reason, we offer a 7-day live arrival guarantee on all plants.

🪴 Plants are living things, and occasional minor cosmetic marks or changes can happen during transit. This is completely normal and doesn't affect the long-term health of the plant. Some plants may also take a few days − or sometimes a little longer − to adjust after delivery before showing new growth.

📸 We photograph each plant carefully and will always note any visible blemishes within the promotions page or prior to dispatch. Despite careful packing, the shipping process itself can be stressful, and it's normal for plants to need time to acclimate to their new environment once they arrive. During this period, temporary leaf changes or slower growth are to be expected and are nothing to worry about.

📬 If you experience any issues with your order, please contact us at help@thearoidarium.co.uk within 7 days of delivery so we can help as quickly as possible. When getting in touch, we ask that you include your order number, full name, and a few clear photos of the plant so we can assess the situation accurately.

⏱️ To ensure fairness, compensation cannot be guaranteed if we are not notified within the 7-day period. We're also unable to offer a guarantee once the plant has been repotted, as we can't account for changes in care or environment beyond this point.
